Giles rubbed the bridge of his nose wearily as he read the news article. “Vampire Killer Stumps the Best of the Jeffersonian Institute.”

The case had started simple enough.
The victim had been found in an abandoned warehouse, with a fatal neck wound. There were signs of a fight and the blood on wall proved to belong to the victim. The only unusual things might have been the message in blood, You’ll be next Slayer! and the lack of blood, since the victim had been drained of blood and there wasn’t enough blood on the wall to account for the missing blood.
Ten victims later--all teenaged girls--all with fatal neck wounds, all scenes in abandoned areas, and all having messages in blood (each getting more desperate), Dr. Brennan was stumped. She couldn’t find anything in common in the victims except for age and gender. The only clues she could find about the killer was the death wound appeared to be made by sharpened teeth and there was a saliva-like substance in the neck wound of a few of the victims, although the physical make up varied slightly from victim to victim. The FBI and media were putting pressure on the institute to find and stop the “Vampire Killer.” She knew if she could identify who this “Slayer” was, breakthrough would follow.
