Title: Masks
Word Count: 200
Fandom: Anita Blake
Challenge: #50 - going for a ride
Disclaimer: I don't own Buffy or Edward
Notes: Beware Buffy angst ahead

Buffy looked out over the ocean seeing the waves, before she closed her eyes and felt the rocking of the boat. It reminded her of when she was younger, she would sit in her mom’s lap as she sat in the rocking chair. And she felt safe from the monsters.

But now… her mom’s dead, the monsters all know her name, and it’s her job to lead armies of little girls against them. Death is her gift to give never to receive no matter how hard she tries. Buffy opened her eyes letting the horrors she’s lived fill them.

She turned at a man’s laughter and their eyes locked. Laughter faded from his eyes, his own horrors filling them instead. It was like looking at someone who had shredded their own soul because otherwise they wouldn’t be able to do what they had to. She could see death in his eyes and she wanted it.

Then the little girl at his side poked him. Immediately his face lit up. A soul filled his eyes as he picked her up.

Buffy had a few days before she had to wear her own mask. But till then her eyes would show her soul.

Angsty. Interesting. I never got past book 6 of the Anita Blake series, but I think I remember who you're talking about.

Progress: 4/6!
