“What is that?” asked Vimes, as knurd as one could be.

“A rubber duckie, sir.” Carrot, being far too cheerful.

“What is it doing on my desk?”

“It appeared, sir.”

“Appeared?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Ooooh, I did it! It was me!”

Vimes looked to the girl who had been hiding behind Carrot.

“Who is that?”

“Dawn Summers, sir. She appeared also.”

“I was practicing, I can do it! Even if it’s only Spike that believes me.”

“Spike?” he asked, then regretted it as the girl launched into a long explanation about a vampire, of course - a vampire, beer and mean slayers who laugh at the glowy one.

“DAWN SUMMERS!”

A small blonde woman, who looked as if she should be in the Shades, barged into his office and the giggler hid back behind Carrot.

“Don’t let her see me.” She attempted to whisper.

The blonde reached behind Carrot and dragged the other woman out by her wrists. “You are coming home, young lady.” She turned towards Vimes, “I’m so sorry about this, she’ll be back to apologise.”

“Please, don’t.”

“It was nice to meet you, enjoy the duck!” The girl shouted as the two disappeared in front of their eyes.

“What the hell?”

“Where are we?”

“Uh…”

“Dawn?”

The three people in white coats stared at her.

“Pet, most people don’t bring their own men in white coats to take them away.”

“You’re not a rubber duck.”

“I knew it was House’s fault.”

“Chase!”

“Come on, Cameron… he calls us his ducklings!”
