Buffy Summers was on her way to the punch table. She’d been roped into another one of these ‘mixers’ where the council’s contacts met the council’s new members.
“Ah! Buffy!”
“What’s up, Giles?”
“I’d like to introduce you to an old friend of mine.” He indicated the guy next to him. “This is Svlad “Dirk” Cjelli.”
“Actually,” Dirk interjected, “It’s Gently now.”
“Really? When did that happen?”
“Between the case with the time machine and the case with the Norse gods.”
Giles responded, “I see.”
He didn’t.
“Nasty business, that last one. Broke my nose.”
“You didn’t see that coming?”
