"Happy Birthday, D!"
Faith attacked with a Slayer hug – the kind that leaves you gasping desperately for air.
"Thanks," Dawn coughed when she could breathe again.
"We brought you a present," her former principal added, handing her a square box as big as his head. "I wasn’t certain about it, but Faith insisted."
"Dawnie’ll do fine, as long as she keeps him away from bright light and water. That’s what the seller told us, anyway."
"Him?"
Dawn opened the box. A furry creature looked up at her, blinking adorably.
"Oh, and one more thing..."
"Yes?"
"Don’t feed him after midnight."
