Title: There's No Place Like...
Word count: 200
Fandom: Buffy/Wizard of Oz
Challenge: #116 - home sweet home
Summary: Somewhere over the rainbow.
Disclaimer: Universes not mine. Words mine.
The shoes fit perfectly, as if they'd been made for her, even though they were second-hand. Dawn didn't realize that was suspicious until afterwards. She was due some luck, surely? The shoes were deep red, and glittered garishly like something out of the seventies. Or like something out of the movies. Dawn was no Dorothy Gale, and this wasn't Kansas, but they certainly did look like ruby slippers.
Dawn clicked her heels together. They made a satisfyingly sharp sound.
There's no place like home. Home wasn't where she wanted to be, not now, not with, well, everything.
Click. Click. Click.
"There's no place like..." Dawn whispered. If she could travel over the rainbow, would she? Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me. "...Oz."
Click. Click. Click.
"There's no place like Oz." Dawn's voice was stronger now.
Click. Click. Click.
"There's no place like Oz," Dawn said again.
The store vanished like smoke. Bright sun shone down on a field of yellowing wheat. Dawn could smell the warm dusty scent of seed heads and dry soil. Beneath her feet was pavement made of yellow bricks.
"Somehow, I don't think this is Kansas."
