Challenge #115
Feb. 19th, 2012 08:34 pmTitle: We Band of Buggered
Word Count: 200
Fandom: BtVS/HP
Challenge: #115 - All's Fair In Love And War
Disclaimer: I didn't create the characters, I'm just playing with them.
Dawn watched, keeping her face impassive, as another of the protective charms surrounding them shattered. She just hoped their little diversion was going to buy enough time for Harry, because there was a decent chance that everyone in here was about to die.
A bunch of girls from the D.A. had barricaded themselves into the Ravenclaw common room, hoping the Death Eaters looking for Potter would check there first. They had. Many of them. Too many.
“Bloody Death Eaters,” Ginny muttered. “It’s not fair.”
Dawn shrugged, her wand trained on the doorway. Even once the last of the wards broke, their enemy still had to use the door.
“We don’t play fair either,” she pointed out. “I doubt pureblood snobs have even heard of most Muggle weapons, much less thought to combine them with magic.”
The flamethrowers mounted on either side of the door wouldn’t register if anyone swept for enchantments before entering. But magic would let them pull the triggers from a safe distance. Instant human candle.
“Besides,” Hannah Abbott said, “you know what they say.”
The Hufflepuff’s voice shook, but her wand arm remained steady.
“All’s fair in love and war. And this sure as hell isn’t love.”
