Methos told Buffy everything about himself.  He answered every question she had with the absolute truth.  He didn’t whitewash a single event of his life.  She asked for his name and he said, “Methos.”   She asked his age and he told her that he was older than even he knew.  She asked him if he was a monster and he told her when the circumstances called for it and sometimes when they didn’t.  She knew about the Horseman, Cassandra and every compromise he had made to stay alive.  She accepted it all.

The secret that he kept was not about him but her: Buffy was Immortal.

The truth might break Buffy.  It would probably shatter the Slayer into tiny pieces.  She loved her family too much to outlive them.  She knew what happened after death.  She was looking forward to death and Methos knew that she would probably never see death again.  The Witch had made a mistake and not one that she could fix.

So Methos told Buffy the truth to every question she thought to ask, knowing that she wouldn’t think to ask the right question.  He would pay for this secret with truth.  He didn’t mind penance.

You've made me sad, in the best way. Poor Buff. If I were Methos I would be dreading the time when she figures it out. I'd also like more of this story, but it feels complete as it is…unfortunately.
