The young man wore an eye-patch. He walked like a soldier and talked like a Californian. He laughed, teased and genuinely liked everyone around him. He caught Sherlock studying him and nodded, inviting him into his circle of… not frivolity, not unburdened, but still fun.
Sherlock refused and stepped back. He could read the secrets of most people in how they walked, talked and habits that they didn’t remember they had. He could read all that and add it together to a whole picture. He could take any secret that he wanted.
Except this man’s.
His secrets were his own.
