He’s watching the pretty blonde who just ducked under the crime scene tape; she still has her credentials out, ready to hold them up to anyone who asks.
He raises his eyebrow as she stalks towards him, and then he sees the logo next to her badge and the cold shivers down his spine. He’s heard rumours of the Council, nothing more.
“Can I help you?” he asks, glad his voice doesn’t show his nerves.
“Nope,” she answers with a grin on her face, “just taking a walk.”
And she carries on down the alley and disappears into the dark.

She’s grabbing a quick cup of coffee before she has to meet the latest group of slayers here to take their final test when she sees him.
They’ve met once before for a second when she’d had to cut through a crime scene whilst on patrol.
She can tell the moment he spots her; the half smile on his face. Not the usual reaction to someone who’s had Council papers in their face.
She drains her coffee and saunters past him, smirk on her face.
He grins back; she hopes he’ll call when he finds her card in his pocket.

They’d been trading phone calls for weeks; trying to set a time to meet, getting to know each other better. First she’d had to bail to save some junior slayers from a demon horde in Central Park, not that he knew that. Next he’d had a case that’d lead to him and Ryan on a stake out for three whole days.
And it went on like that.
“What are you doing now?” she asks.
“Now? Was just about to watch a game,” he answers.
“How about we watch it together?”
“Sounds good,” she can hear the smile in his voice.
