Buffy soaked in the rays, eyes closed, as the sun beat down steadily. She heard a pair of flip-flopped feet approach, and squinted against the glare.

A blonde in sunglasses and a striped bikini settled into the next seat. "You just moved in next door, right?" she asked.

"Yep, that's me, New Girl. I'm Buffy."

"Veronica."

Buffy concentrated a moment and felt... nothing. No tingles, no spidey-sense, no supernatural weirdness. The girl was 100% human.

Buffy smiled. "It's great to meet you."

For once she could just have a normal friend, instead of trouble following everywhere she went.

challenge: #30 - Vampire Movies

"So what'd you rent?" Buffy settled in on the couch, popcorn in hand. This was of the good. Normal. Non-violent.

"Interview with the Vampire," Veronica said. "Huh? Huh? Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt? Wallace always refuses to watch it."

"Um." Buffy tried to think of a good objection, and failed. "Not really a fan of vampire movies."

Veronica looked disappointed for a moment. "Top Gun? I had a Tom Cruise moment at Blockbuster."

"Perfect," Buffy said, relieved. "But this movie is all about Val Kilmer."

"You like the bad boys, huh?" Veronica grinned. "I might have one for you."

challenge: #58 - First Impressions

"I gotta admit, this ain't the first date I planned," Weevil said.

"I'm not so good with first dates," Buffy told him. "But hey, it was great up to the beach."

Five weird dudes ambushed them under the pier. Any other girl would've run, but Buffy was absolutely fearless.

"That was the best part," he said, kissing her bare shoulder. Underneath that bronzed skin was hard muscle. How had he ever thought this girl was soft and spoiled?

"You sure you've never done that before?" He'd held his own, too.

"Maybe once or twice."

"Not just a pretty face, then."
