The Eight who had once been Sharon ‘Boomer’ Valerii shifted uncomfortably under the steadfast gaze of Dawn Thrace. Starbuck’s sister was one of the few people on Galactica willing to be anywhere near her. Dawn had somehow survived the fall of Caprica, escaping with Sharon ‘Athena’ Valerii. The Twos whispered that it had been destiny.

God, how she hated that word. She had ever since the baseship, when her world had shattered the first time.

I’m not a Cylon!

“Is it true?” Boomer asked.

Dawn’s confused look reminded Boomer that Dawn didn’t know what she was thinking.

“Leoben said you had a destiny,” Boomer elaborated.

“Yeah, I know,” Dawn said. “That he said it, anyway. Whether it’s true or not, no clue. None of us know what’s in store for us, really.”

You can’t fight destiny, Sharon.

“Do you think if a person does have a destiny, it can be changed?”

Dawn shrugged.

“Some things are meant to be, and no matter how fast you run you can’t get away.”

It catches up with you.

Boomer’s jaw tightened. Couldn’t she still change things?

“But there’s still free will,” Dawn added. “We all make our choices.”

No matter what you do.

Leoben’s entire world fell into ruins around him when he saw the hair- that bright, blonde hair framing the skeletal face of the long dead pilot whose Viper had fallen defending the planet of his forebears.

He had always prided himself on seeing more than the other models, seeing the larger picture. He’d told both Thrace sisters about it. Dawn had been the skeptic, Kara the believer. Two sides of the same coin.

I see the universe. I see the patterns.

He had seen their future. Him and Kara, living together. He had seen love, love stronger than death.

I see the foreshadowing that proceeds every moment, of every day.

He wondered if he had ever really seen anything. When he looked up, all he saw now was devastation.

“What am I?” Kara demanded in anguish.

It's all there. I see it, and you don't.

This time, he had no answer. His certainty that there was something greater was gone.

I have a surprise for you. I have something to tell you about the future.

He thought he’d known. Her destiny, and Dawn’s, and his own.

We have to see this through to the end.

To what end? And whose?

Caprica hadn’t expected it to be this difficult. Her assignment had been simple. Intercept anyone attempting to remove the Arrow of Apollo. That it was the famous Lieutenant Thrace just made it more interesting.

The human didn’t have her strength, didn’t have her reflexes. She didn’t have her knowledge of the terrain in or around the Museum, either. She would still be remembering it as it used to be, before the Return. So what was driving her to keep getting up, to keep going when all odds were against her?

“I made a promise to my sister,” Starbuck growled. “I would protect her, always. I don’t care how many frakking Cylons stand in my way, I’ll keep that promise.”

“Oh, little sister’s the key?” Caprica smiled. “Shame- Dawn is already dead by now. Radiation is such an unpleasant way to die, too.”

She grinned as Starbuck fell to the floor, stunned by both her words and blows. It was nearly over.

Then Starbuck tackled her, sending both of them crashing down a level onto the twisted rebar fragments below. Caprica’s mind screamed that a human could not be that strong.

It’s because she loves, Gaius whispered as her sight dimmed.

Note: Just to show I do write crosses other than BSG these days...

Dawn tried not to be too obvious about the fact that this was the weirdest near-apocalypse she’d ever attended, bar none. For a start, it had for once been angels instead of demons trying to bring on the end of the world- the end of existence, even.

Jay and Silent Bob were the strangest prophets she’d met. Bethany was not at all how she’d pictured a relation of Jesus. Rufus was pretty mouthy for an apostle. And Dawn really didn’t want to think about why she was the only Scooby who hadn’t needed to cover her ears.

Then there was the whole revival thing…

She had cracked up when Xander actually joined in Metatron’s line once he realized where it was going.

“She has the technology! She can make you better, faster, stronger! Ow!”

The ‘ow’ was because Willow and Buffy had both smacked him at once.

“What? I think it’s cool that we’re not the only ones who make with the pop culture references!”

Dawn snickered. And then tried not to let her eyes pop out of her head as God herself came skipping over to engage in a handstand contest with her.

Yep, definitely the weirdest near-apocalypse ever.

Can we get a Dogma tag? Or maybe a 'Kevin Smith' if you think that would be better.

God and Dawn in a handstand contest--a fun mental image. :)

Oh, geez. Xander and Rufus and Metatron all in the same place...the potential for snark is frightening!
