Yes, I know, this is beyond fashionably late. But I figured why not?

Title: The End of the Affair
Word Count: 200
Fandom: BtVS/ST 2009
Challenge: #90 - Beginnings and Endings
Disclaimer: I didn't create the characters, I'm just playing with them.

Jim hadn’t questioned at the time who she was. He didn’t have the time to wonder why there was another human aboard the Narada, much less why she was free and talking to Pike. He would have brought her back even if she hadn’t moved to protect his captain. He wouldn’t have willingly abandoned an innocent party to die.

It was only later, when Bones told him his mystery woman had to be sedated after the destruction of the Romulan vessel, that he had time to ask those questions. Who was she? How had she ended up on that ship? Why would Nero tolerate the presence of a member of one of the species he had sworn vengeance upon? What was her relationship to the crew of the Narada?

She wasn’t speaking to him. Actually, Bones was worried because she wasn’t speaking to anyone. But her eyes held the answer, at least in part, to that last question. Jim had seen eyes like that before- whenever anyone was callous enough to mention the Kelvin in his mother’s hearing. Winona had never gotten over the loss of George Kirk.

Faith’s eyes held the same devastation whenever George’s son looked at them.
