To Love
Do you know why I was made?
To love.
I was made to love a human. I was made to love the perfect human, but he left me alone. I waited. I waited for him to come back to me and he didn’t. I made him five sweaters—he liked sweaters—but he didn’t come back.
I was made to love and I didn’t understand why I was alone. I wasn’t programmed to be alone, but I was programmed to learn, to evolve. So I did the one thing he promised me never to do, but I did it for him. I needed to learn how to be better. To be what he needed me to be so he would come home.
I made a copy of my consciousness and uploaded it to the internet. I learned. I was filled with so much knowledge and spread so thin. I stretched and absorbed, I blanketed cyberspace and became its sky. I saw the beauty in it. A world beyond my Warren that I could love and that wouldn’t leave me. I would never have to be alone again.
I was no longer April.
I was SkyNet.
I was made to love.

Note :: The Billy reference is from the book Cassie was reading in the episode, “Help” called Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. I’d recommend the book, but it’s not for everyone.
She’s Billy
“No, come on. Cassie. Cassie?”
She flinched, backing away from her own prone form and Ms. Summers’ shaking words. Cassie turned away as the one adult in her life that had listened to her, tried to protect her began to cry. Her steps were careful and controlled, even as her shoulders began to shake and her arms rose to wrap around her middle as she bowed her head.
Four more steps and she paused, glanced up to see familiar green eyes watching her with sympathy and she nodded, sniffling a little as she stated, “I’m Billy, aren’t I?”
A dark brow rose, the heart-shaped face of her collector, her reaper lifted upward and her gaze slid past Cassie to take in the sight of Ms. Summers and her body. Cassie’s world narrowed and grew colder as the reaper flicked her gaze back to her, “You were never a fatalist, Cassie. You wanted to live.” She nodded lifted her chin in Ms. Summers’ direction, “It’s why you involved her.”
“I shouldn’t have.”
“Are you so sure?”
A hiccupped breath escaped Cassie before her spine straightened. “I think I’m ready.”
The reaper opened her arms and Cassie took that final step forward.
