Challenge: #050 - Going for a ride
Disclaimer: Don’t own
Tara looked around her, the whole world had changed since she had died long ago but the Powers That Be still called in favours even in the after life. Whistler had asked her to take a journey with a team of petty criminals who had taken on board a very special girl.
“River's got a long ride ahead of her and she needs someone she can trust to be around her when the voices get too much,” he told her. “You always were the calming influence on the others.”
So now she was on a spaceship, journeying who knows where.
Title: Serenity

Word Count: 100
Fandom: Firefly/Serenity
Challenge: #051 - The written word
Disclaimer: Don’t own
Taking notice of the changes in the universe, Tara stared at the easy amalgamation between Chinese and English, not only spoken but in writing as well. It made it difficult to understand everything around her but Whistler had promised her help with that. All she had to do was find Serenity and all would be well.
But she had no way of knowing what Serenity meant. Was it the feeling of serenity or a name of something? Looking ahead, she smiled. Answers would come to those who asked. A spaceship stood in front of her, Serenity written on the side.
Title: Tall Card
Author: kayley
Word Count: 100
Fandom: Firefly/Serenity
Challenge: #052 - Tokens
Disclaimer: Don’t own
A game of Tall Card was proposed. Scraps of paper with chores written on them were handed out as tokens for betting. A chance to not have to wash or cook or clean were up for offer. It sounded too good to be true.
It was. Tara sat there with no offers left to bet as Shepherd Book cleaned her out.
“You kno', for a preacher man, you are pretty sneaky,” Jayne said after Book claimed the next hand.
“One must be prepared for all forms of dilemmas of the soul, gambling is just one of them,” Book replied wisely.

Challenge: #053 - Green
Disclaimer: Don’t own
“You miss it don't you?” Inara asked her.
“Miss what?” Tara replied. The two were seated in Inara's shuttle, sipping tea and listening to soothing music.
“Earth-That-Was. You miss your home,” Inara clarified.
“There were a lot of bad things that I don't miss but so much I do,” Tara agreed. “But back home, there was so much vying for attention you would miss how clear it was. Seeing it against here, the grass was so green, the sky so blue. Here is so bleak, with so much dust.”
“Wait until you see the Core planets,” Inara suggested.
Title: Companion
Author: kayley
Word Count: 100
Fandom: Firefly/Serenity
Challenge: #054 - Seven Virtues
Disclaimer: Don’t own
Inara watched the new passenger with great interest, as did Shepherd Book. Both of them had recognized something in her.
“If I didn't know better, I would believe she had been raised in a Companion Training House,” Inara spoke to him softly. “She encompasses so many of the virtues that they try to teach.”
“Tara does seemingly encompass the seven virtues of which the companion training is based upon,” Book agreed. “The way she treats River, so much patience. She shows a sense of humility that even I have trouble showing.”
“Do you think it's an act?”
“No, it's natural.”
Title: Enjoyment
Author: kayley
Word Count: 100
Fandom: Firefly/Serenity
Challenge: #055 - Music
Disclaimer: Don’t own
Jayne strummed his guitar softly while Tara sung along with him. The music had drawn River out and she began to dance. She reached for Kaylee, and they twirled around together. Inara laughed and joined in the fun with Book as her dance partner. Wash drummed his legs to the beat, adding another depth to the music and Simon began to sing along with Tara.
“They're enjoying themselves,” Zoe said as she joined Mal watching them.
“Looks like. Won't last long,” Mal replied before turning to walk away.
“We got a job?”
“Yep, a tough one. Leave them for now.”
Title: Foolish

Word Count: 100
Fandom: Firefly/Serenity
Challenge: #056 - Proverbs
Disclaimer: Don’t own
The job had taken them to one of the rougher planets, and so Tara joined River, Simon, Wash and Inara in waiting for the others to come back. Shepherd Book had volunteered to join the usual trio and they had accepted. Kaylee also went as she was needed for the job.
“Do they do this kind of things regularly?” Tara asked.
“What, head in without a plan?” Wash replied.
“Constantly,” Inara added with a sigh. “Most people avoid this world.”
“Fools rush in where angels fear to tread,” Tara surmised.
“Not a fool, just foolish,” River corrected and Simon agreed.
Title: Someone to cling to
Author: kayley
Word Count: 100
Fandom: Firefly/Serenity
Challenge: #057 - Remembrance
Disclaimer: Don’t own
Tara held the sobbing girl close, remembering the times she did similar for another broken young girl.
“Who?” River asked as her crying eased.
“Who? What?” Tara replied.
“Who else did you hold like this?”
Tara looked at her in shock but then it clicked, River was very astute. So she told River about Dawn. How she would cry at night after loosing her mother. How she had become wracked with guilt over how her sister had died. Of how she needed someone to cling to.
“It's okay to show weakness River, just need to remember I'm here for you.”
Title: Haven
Author: kayley
Word Count: 100
Fandom: Firefly/Serenity
Challenge: #058 - First impressions
Disclaimer: Don’t own
Her first impression of Haven was that it was like a rural town. So little supplied to them but the children thrived in the love and attention of their parents who worked to support them. Not that there really was much work. It seemed mainly that there were a few farms away from the township which had people growing their food.
Tara's second impression of Haven was that there was more to it than what it appeared on the outside. They supported the Independents still out there, providing shelter to those who needed it. News and supplies quickly swapped hands.

Challenge: #059 - Oops
Disclaimer: Don’t own
It had been a long day for Tara, and she was glad to be back on Serenity. They had been in town to trade, when someone decided to try to attack Kaylee. Mal had taken offense to it and had hit the guy hard.
When the fight broke out, Tara had immediately gone with her strengths and cast a spell to freeze the others, thinking it would allow the crew of Serenity to leave without further issue. Unfortunately she froze everyone.
“Oops,” she muttered as she quickly reworked the spell again.
“What was that?” Mal had asked. She never answered.
