Buffy sighed as she looked at the engagement ring on her finger. Sure, she loved him but was it only because she couldn’t have Angel. Was she just accepting second best? Making do with the one she could be with?

“Hey Gorgeous, just letting you know Sam and I are safe. We’ve finished the hunt and will be on our way back tomorrow. Love you. See you soon,” Dean’s voice drifted through the apartment as she played her messages. Just hearing his voice made her cheer right up.

He wasn’t second best. She loved him that was all that mattered.
