Challenge #81
Jan. 30th, 2009 04:33 pmTitle: Somewhere In My Memory
Word Count: 200
Fandom: BtVS/LOTR
Challenge: #081 - Snow
Disclaimer: Sadly, I don't own these characters.
Dawn had forgotten how beautiful snow could be. She hadn’t seen any since coming to Middle Earth. She had no idea how many years it had been since that had happened. Many, she guessed. She had lived long under the mallorn, where the power of Galadriel protected the land, softening the passage of time. No snow touched those boughs, no frost killed their flowers. It was constantly a season that Dawn recognized as Indian summer.
Unlike the Galadhrim, though, Dawn was not content to stay there for all time- or even until the dark times whose coming Galadriel foretold. So she had been given an escort to travel to Rivendell, where Galadriel’s son-in-law dwelt. Crossing the mountains on what her escort informed her was the most perilous stage of her journey, she saw snow again.
At first she just stared, drinking in the sight of pristine white slopes and blanketed trees. Then all at once the memory of the last time she had seen snow came flooding back- snow that had been far from untouched.
It disturbed Haldir and his brothers greatly when Minuial began to weep, and more so when she could not find the words to explain why.
