Well! That last challenge fell flatter than a pancake, so let's try something new for a Summer Event.

challenge #078: six degrees of crossing over

You remember the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game? Well, this is kind of similar. Write six crossover drabbles-- and for this one, I'm not holding you to 100/200 words exactly on each of them-- starting and ending with a Buffy-verse cross, but not repeating any others, while passing a theme, object, message, weather pattern, etc. (but not a person, because that adds extra crossovers) between each of them.

For example: Featuring, say, different iterations of bizarre toaster technology and their uses and/or consequences? (1) B:tVS/Stargate Atlantis, to (2) SGA/Eureka, to (3) Eureka/Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog, to (4) Dr. Horrible/CSI, to (5) CSI/Battlestar Galactica, to (6) BSG/B:tVS.

This event will run for the entire month of August, and if there's enough participation, say at least five of you, I'll recruit some graphic artists to do Six Degrees banners tailored to your crossover chains. I would love for that to be necessary. *hint hint*

Please, have some fun with the concept! The stranger the connections, the better! Remember, any crossover is welcome, but please place your drabbles behind a cut, and tag your posts appropriately.

Just so I'm clear on this challenge - The stories don't necessarily have to be linked in any other way than the theme and crossed with the previous fandom? Meaning it doesn't have to have a story/plotline following through all six drabbles. They can be nonrelated as long as the 'theme' is present and I follow the appropriate linking of fandoms.

And secondly if the theme could be taken in different ways - i.e. a button could be a button on a shirt or a button that you push - is that allowed as well?

Sorry for the questions, I just want to make sure I'm clear on the guidelines before I start planning it out.

Sweet. I was just making sure I understood. Sometimes I read things one way and it's the exact opposite of what it really said. :D

Thanks!

If we get bold and do more than one chain of six, should it all go in one post, or should each chain get a separate post? (I'm almost done with one set of six, but I'm probably going to try another set.)

A question: the TTH website does not allow real people to show up in their stories so I assumed that the same was true here but I thought I'd get clarification anyway. I've written a chain that I've posted on my own journal but "Anderson Cooper 360" is one of the crossovers.

If it's not allowed, no biggie, my flist had already enjoyed it.

Ah, I see. I checked the rules of the comm and it wasn't stated explicitly, but I assumed since it was an extension that it wasn't allowed. Thanks for clarifying though!

I had a good chain, nice concept, moving everything through nicely - but with one little problem : looks like each part's gonna be about 500 words each.

Problem? *makes puppy-dog/anime eyes*

I don't want to be pushy because I know we all have lives that take us away from the wonderful world of fanfiction and updating it. But could we have a new prompt for Halloween? Preeeeeeetty please.
