“Buffy,” Joyce called. “There's some people I want you to meet.”
Buffy sighed and headed down the stairs. She hated that she had to move to Sunnydale, hated her life as a Slayer and hated the fact that because Sunnydale was a small town, she was apparently big news.
There were two females in front of her mother, one about her mother's age or slightly younger with straight black hair. The other was about her age with the same colour blonde. The girl was wearing a similar frown to what Buffy knew she was wearing, one of long term suffering.
Her mother introduced them as relations, Aunt Helen and Cousin Ashley.
Her aunt spoke with a slight English accent and fairly formally about how it was so nice to meet her. Buffy had to stop herself from rolling her eyes, it certainly wouldn't make a good impression. Ashley though did roll her eyes before winking at Buffy, causing Buffy to smile slightly.
“Buffy, did you want to take Ashley up to your room?” Joyce asked.
“Yes mum,” Buffy sighed in annoyance.
“So where'd you get the scar?” Ashley asked as they went.
“Vampire,” Buffy said doubting she'd be believed.
“Wicked.”

The death of Angel hit Buffy hard, especially since she was the one to kill him. Not knowing where else to turn, she headed to the one place she knew she'd be accepted. Her aunt and cousin knew all about her being a Slayer, had known before Joyce had known. Aunt Helen had treated her one day after a particularly nasty battle with a demon and had discovered some anomalies in her genetic make-up. Her cousin had been the one to find her after the battle, Ashley had seen part of the fight and had come to her rescue when she was injured.
After that, Ashley and Buffy were almost inseparable. If they hadn't seen each other during the day, they would be on the phone for hours. Ashley knew all about Angel and so Buffy knew that her cousin would be the right one to turn to. Aunt Helen would check on her to see she was okay and then let Ashley worry over her.
As she arrived in town, Buffy couldn't help but feel part of her spirits soar. She belonged more with Ashley and aunt Helen, because they knew about the monsters and demons and death.

“Ash, I'm bored,” Buffy pouted at her cousin.
“So am I,” Ashley replied. “I don't know why mum won't let us out tonight.”
“She mentioned something about someone hunting us. Like we couldn't take 'em,” Buffy reminded Ashley.
“Oh yeah, wanna sneak out?” Ashley asked.
“Could be fun,” Buffy replied before a knock at the door interrupted them.
“Ten to one that mum's sent Bigfoot up to keep us out of trouble,” Ashley said as she walked to the door.
“That's a sucker bet, so not taking it,” Buffy replied as Ashley opened the door.
“Yep, I was so right.”

Buffy grinned at her cousin Ashley Magnus. The two of them had been so alike from the moment they had met, a year after Buffy had been called. Sure, the family tree was a bit skewed what with the truth behind Ashley's mum but the two managed to work it out.
“So you met your dad?” Buffy asked with a hint of excitement.
“Yeah, wish I hadn't though,” Ashley answered bitterly.
“Not a nice guy?” Buffy prompted.
“Nope, a time travelling mass murderer named Jack the Ripper,” Ashley sighed resentfully.
“Damn, you win in the sucky dad comp,” Buffy replied.
