The harsh beat of death metal called to Faith, so she headed into the club before her. She could always claim that she had seen a vampire enter there if word got back to her Watcher that she was there. While her Watcher was relatively cool, she was rather strict about the patrol route and about using Slayer abilities for anything other than slaying.

Taking in the scenes from in front of her, Faith realised she was in a Goth club. To her, the club was full of try hard wannabes, ones who thought the whole Goth scene was just dressing in black and adding a bit of mascara. All except one.

Towards the back of the club was a youngish girl who had a series of tats across her body, dressed in a dress that just screamed gothic. But it was her attitude that made her seem more realistic than any of the others. Making her way towards the girl, Faith just hoped she wasn’t a vampire in perfect disguise.

“Hey,” Faith said trying to work out if she was a vamp. “Who’s playing?”

“Oh, hey…” the girl replied. “Cannibal Corpse.”

“Cool. I’m Faith…”

“Abby,” the girl replied confidently.

It was hard for her, after all these years. She never got to know her sister all that well. When her father left with Kate, her mom cut off all contact with them; even going as far as changing their last name back to Lehane. So when she had decided enough was enough, and began to track Kate down… it took a lot of time.

But they had been back on speaking terms which had cheered Faith up a lot. Her sister had tried so hard to make sure that they spoke to each other several times a month but after jail, the calls began to come less frequently. Faith understood why, for Kate was now apart of the Secret Service and the people who protect the President shouldn’t have family who were convicted.

Yet it wasn’t time for petty thinking. Instead, she was at Kate’s funeral. Listening to the people who had become Kate’s family. She hadn’t been told what had happened to her except that she had taken a bullet.

There was still time to get to know her sister, even though she was dead. The memory of friends would always be able to be shared and remembered.

I remember thinking that very thing two weeks ago at my friend's memorial service; I'd known him for 18 years, but I didn't know his favorite flower was the daffodil until Mom explained why she'd put them all over the tables in the church reception hall.

These make 42/6.
