Buffy stepped back, into the scientist behind her as she stared at the shimmering circle of light and wondered if her father had been right shouting at the senator of California that his 15 year old daughter couldn’t, shouldn’t be on some government Alpha list.
She tuned in just as the General, which had greeted her with the kindest smile. Stated, with more certainty that she had ever felt, “…call it ‘home’. A new colony. Godspeed.”
Those behind and around her began to make their way up the metal walkway. Buffy hesitated only a moment before following.

The Changing of the Guards
“A new IOA representative? She better than Woolsey?”
General Landry raised his brows at Mitchell and ignored his inquiries. “What’s important is making her feel comfortable and less likely to approve budget cuts.” His lips quirked, “And don’t forget to hold her hand when you cross a street.”
Daniel’s hand rose to resettle his glasses as Cam asked for the only two members of SG-1 present, “Why are we the dog and pony show?”
“I requested you.”
The linguist rose as General Hammond entered behind the petite woman that addressed Mitchell. Landry and the colonel snapped to attention from their positions near the window overlooking the embarkation room and she stepped forward, past Hammond and toward that window.
Her gaze locked on the Stargate and she stated, to no one in particular. “It’s still bigger than life. Isn’t it?”
Daniel moved around the table, his curiosity peeked. “You’ve seen the Stargate before?”
Hammond moved to take up ranks beside the blonde, “Ms. Summers was on the Alpha list when Klorel and Apophis attempted to attack Earth.”
She nodded, “Which means I have a better understanding and appreciation of the work you do here.”
Oh yeah, better than Woolsey by half.
