Buffy's roommate Connie was practically bubbling over. “Cali! We can wear earrings again!”

“Right, we can!” Buffy dug into her jewelry that had been stored away during BCT. She looked it over and sighed. Most of it was against uniform regs.

Connie picked out a pair from Buffy's stash. “These'll work.” She leaned in closer. “Hey, why do you have all that if your ears aren't even pierced?”

Buffy quickly stepped to the mirror. “My ears were pierced! They must've healed over!”

Connie looked skeptical. “C'mon, it was only a month. Nobody's piercings heal that quickly, that completely.”

Buffy grimaced inwardly. Another lie needed to cover herself. “Um... I guess it was a really long time ago. Damn, I'll have to wait until we can go off-campus.”

Connie grinned slyly. “You don't have to wait till Thanksgiving! I just need a needle...” She produced one from her sewing kit. “...And some ice. I know I can beg some from that hottie Sheridan. I saw him checking me out.”

Later...

“Too bad you had to go through that again; I bet the ice only helped so much.”

“No, it barely hurt at all this time.”

And that was the truth.
