Dawn hated this place, The Academy. She had no idea how they got their hands on her. If she didn’t know better the Must Be Tuesday rule was still in affect. Those damn—

“Two by two. Hands of blue.”

Dawn turned to the young girl huddled in the corner. River Tam. That girl had a touch of Earth-That-Was. River set off Dawn’s weirdo-meter. If she had to name the weird Dawn would guess psychic.

River was crying again, she had just been brought back after one of her sessions. She always cried after. But then she would wipe away her tears and smile. Something shone in this little girl’s eyes that so many of the other children had lost.

Hope.

Dawn had escaped with the help of the last Scoobies. The Academy had tried to come after her but they had been shown the error of their ways.

In her three years there she had never been able to find out why River Tam always kept hope in her eyes. She switched on her monitor to see if there were any new waves. One caught her attention in particular. A bounty for River Tam… and her brother Simon.

Eee! Because if there was anything of the Key about Dawn, of course the Blue-Hands would want her. And nice use of the theme.

Of course, now you've got me wondering how the Scoobies' canon adventures would map onto the 'verse of 500-years-in-the-future...
