#005 - Step on a crack
May. 4th, 2005 11:28 pmTitle: Step on a Crack
Word Count: 200
Fandom: Sealab 2021
Challenge: #005 – Superstitions
Note: I don’t particularly like Kennedy, so I figured, if I’m gonna kill her off, why not do it on a show where most of the main characters die violently in each episode?
Disclaimer: I don't own this stuff. Joss Whedon and Cartoon Network? do. No cash made, just fun had. I promise I won't break 'em, and I'll put 'em back in the case when I'm done.

Kennedy and Murphy’s daughter was skipping down the sidewalk.
“Don’t step on a crack, sweetheart,” Kennedy told her. “You’ll break Mommy’s back.”
Unseen by the happy family, a vengeful spirit lurked nearby. She figured that this might be an excellent opportunity to fill a marker that had been placed some six years ago.
The only problem was, said vengeful spirit was of the type that required a wish.
The person that had put the marker out had not made said wish.
“Mommy, I wish you’d stop saying that.”
The spirit grinned.
The daughter stepped on a crack.
Kennedy’s back snapped, and losing all motor control below the waist, fell spectacularly on the concrete and landed oddly.
There was a second snapping sound, and this time the Vengeance Demon knew that the marker had been fulfilled.
Just before she teleported to Arashmaharr to report into D’Hoffryn, she heard the child ask in a timid voice, “Mommy?”
Then she heard the child’s father reply, “Mommy’s just taking a nap. Aren’t you Mommy?”
She disappeared in swirls of smoke, chuckling to herself.

“You know that marker that we had out on Rosenberg’s ex?”
D’Hoffryn asked, “Kennedy?”
“Yes. I filled it.”
“I’ll tell Debbie.”
